Thur/22/09 - Focus Day Donaukanal
Thur/22/09 - Focus Day Donaukanal
The Channel of the Danube in Vienna, especially the area around the Badeschiff and the Urania will be revitalised with an extensive festival program including actions and interventions in public space. Lots of events and presentations will take place at the Central Garden and the Adria. In the evening, these locations at Central Garden and the Badeschiff will be transformed and function as bars/ lounges and meeting-places.
Aufmerksamkeitsungeziefer - Intervention with vibration motors
The object itself looks like a big cockroach and consists of a small vibration motor, some electrical parts and a big battery. Many of these ”small animals“ (objects) are attached underneath various tables of restaurants, cafés, bars, etc. using double-faced adhesive tape. The „host of the parasite“, the table vibrates in pulsed form, similar to a cell phone ringing on the table. The visitors are alarmed: „Is it my phone or yours?“ After a few rings the vermin rests for half an hour.
walks. discoursive city-walks with experts in science, arts and everyday life
The “protected” and well-known exhibition spaces are abandoned and the city as a whole is understood as a playing field - a place for projects, artistic interventions and urban new media arts. Discoursive city walks with experts in science, arts and everyday life” explores the venues and locations of the festival, as well as its surroundings with “walking as a method”.
§P¡NdLe (2009, 2010, ...)
§P¡NdLe is a [project|object] that [combines|confuses] skateboarding with music. The [movement/acceleration] of the skateboard is being transformed into sound synthesis. The sound engine is designed to be both, trivial and non-trivial. The [trivial|direct] translation acts as an additional channel to your mind-body coordination while the non-trivial aspect is there to provide the board with a [memory| internal states] of your ride. It will add up to a climax as long as the movement of the skateboard does not contain too much noise.

The Electromagnetic (EM) wave is a carrier medium. It provides us with long range communication and is the base transporting layer of modern communication. But it is also masqueraded: although we use it often, we access it using tools provided to us by the co- operation of our choice, which brings up another point of EM waves. I would describe it as a territory. Frequency ranges are licensed to "providers" and national borders are marked by messages informing us of the transition to one of their "roaming" partners.
Artvertiser
The Artvertiser is a software and hardware platform for replacing billboard advertisements with art in real-time. It works by teaching a computer system to 'recognise' individual advertisements so they can be easily replaced with alternative content, like images and video. Rather than referring to it as a form of Augmented Reality technology, we consider The Artvertiser an example of Improved Reality, an instrument of conversion and reclamation.
Secret Orchestra
Secret Orchestra is an urban sound installation consisting of a group of small robots hidden in the street. The equipment enables the robot to deliver vibrations on the object where the robot is mounted on. During day time, each of these robots remains quiet in its hideout and analyses the sound of the surrounding city. At one point in the evening the robots start to communicate the so found musical patterns with each other and arrange a composition together.

“Toy-Kit-Architectures” are temporary sculptures built with modular systems. Often, those modules consist of parts from concrete shuttering (h-20 carriers) or mass-produced goods, such as inflatable objects. Those elements are modeled to “temporary sculptures” using lashing strips. The main characteristic of the sculptures is their flexibility, which allows to construct site-specific configurations on-the-fly and to ensure an architectural connection to buildings, areas and objects in public space nearby.
Vibrate Space
6 musicians from different areas of electronic music develop one composition for the public space. The 8-channel sound installation will extend at the area of the centralgarden of over 400 square meters, which is used by passengers, neighbors, children etc. in many different ways. The piece of music varies over 12 hours and through 8 loud-speakers. The different sounds at different places of that area are in a permanent movement and are changing sound and space.
The Dead Drops Manifesto
Dead Drops is an anonymous, offline, peer to peer file-sharing network in public space. Anyone can access a Dead Drop and everyone may install a Dead Drop in their neighborhood/city. A Dead Drop must be public accessible. A real Dead Drop mounts as  read and writeable mass storage drive without any custom software. Dead Drops don’t need to be synced or connected to each other. Each Dead Drop is singular in its existence.
VRMC - Beta - Vireal Rebel Mobilecycle Club / Urania / 22.09, 15:00
VRMC is a mobile artistic application (mobile app) which focuses on the blending of real and virtual space. Using digital media, data is deposited in local (real) space, creating new virtual contexts in the urban environment. VRMC playfully communicates new forms of applications for urban communication and enables new viewpoints on virtual and real space. In parallel, artistic methods are used to demonstrate the virtual information overflow.
Mobile Music Workshop / Donaukanal / 22.09
The Tingel Tangel cart (a Piaggio APE van modified with a DJ-console) will be transformed into a musical interface resp. a master clock for sync-able mobile devices. Everything revolves around mobile synthesizer applications that are played on various platforms, as many as possible, fed into the central music equipment and played back via the TT cart’s sound equipment. In the course of the day workshop technology is being simplified and the goal of a “multi-user final concert” is pursued.
